You may open a Blocked Account to obtain a Declaration of Commitment for a visitor applying for a short-stay visa (up to 90 days), such as for family visits, business trips, or tourism. However, it is not possible to obtain a Declaration of Commitment for a family reunion visa or other long-stay visa (over 90 days). In such cases, the visitor should open a regular Blocked Account in their own name to prove sufficient funds. Always confirm with your local immigration authority, as requirements may vary.

Since the process is completely online, opening a Blocked Account usually only takes a few hours. The duration mainly depends on how quickly you upload all required documents and complete every section. Incomplete records cannot be processed.

After receiving your blocking confirmation, you do not need to take further action until your guest leaves Germany. At that point, you must apply for a blocking release document (“Sperrfreigabe”) from the immigration authority and then select the “Close account” function in the Fintiba app. After verifying the release document, Fintiba will transfer the deposited amount (minus account management fees) back to you.
